HOFSTRA UNIVERSITY Department of Physical Education and Sport Sciences Assistant/Associate Professor - Physical Education Pedagogy
Position Description: Two (2) anticipated full-time tenure track faculty positions beginning Fall 2010, with the possibility of starting January 2010. Responsibilities include:
• Teach undergraduate/graduate methods courses in physical education pedagogy and content specific courses in area of expertise (adapted physical education, adventure education, strength and conditioning) • Teach nine (9) semester hours per semester • Scholarly productivity in a combination of the following: research and other scholarly publication, conference presentations, and professional development activities for teachers and other physical activity professionals • Academic advisement of majors and service in the department and university
Additional Responsibility may include: • Program administration if desired (additional stipend) • Student Teaching Supervision • Teaching opportunities during January and Summer sessions (additional stipend)
Qualifications: Earned doctorate with emphasis in physical education pedagogy preferred, ABD considered evidence of scholarly productivity and/or potential, experience as a practitioner in the field and evidence of successful college/university teaching experience in physical education pedagogy.

The Department of Physical Education and Sport Sciences serves approximately 300 majors in five programs: Bachelor of Science programs in physical education teacher education, exercise specialist, athletic training; a Master of Science program for initial teacher certification, a Master of Arts program for advanced study in physical education pedagogy, adventure education, and strength and conditioning, and a Certificate of Advanced Study in Adventure Education.
